| Most Americans never see, let alone become ensnarled in, the nation's vast correctional system. But the unprecedented prison boom is incurring unprecedented costs -- economic, social, and ethical -- that are being paid, one way or another, by everyone in this country. Despite the fact that over 160,000 people are locked up in federal correctional facilities, information about the Federal Bureau of Prison's (FBOP or BOP) clientel -- and otheir "inside" experiences -- remains elusive.
