The Saltzman Award for Contributions to Practice recognizes a criminologist whose professional accomplishments have increased the quality of justice and the level of safety for women. Established in 2006, the Saltzman Award need not be given every year. It is available to honor unique achievements combining scholarship, persuasion, activism and commitment, particularly work that has made a deep impact on the quality of justice for women, as well as a wide impact (interdisciplinary, international, or cross-cultural). Linda E.
Saltzman, a scientist and
researcher at Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention (CDC) for more than 20 years, made contributions
beyond
measure to the prevention of intimate partner and family violence,
and to
public health surveillance of violence against women. Her
groundbreaking work
helped define the field and led to numerous advancements in violence
prevention.
Her research, her mentorship, and her wide collaborations across
disciplines
and internationally caused a "sea change" in the field of violence
prevention.
