Temple University’s Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program (http://www.insideoutcenter.org/) is sponsoring a pre-conference Inside-Out workshop at Graterford State Prison on Tuesday, November 14th. The LAC is assisting them with arrangements, advertising, and logistics.
As you likely know, the Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program increases opportunities for people, inside and outside of prison, to have transformative learning experiences that emphasize collaboration and dialogue, inviting participants to take leadership in addressing crime, justice, and other issues of social concern. We have geared this Workshop for ASC members who have not yet participated in an Inside‐Out Prison Exchange Program Training Institute, in order to involve faculty and students who may not focus primarily on prison‐related issues but who may wish to explore desired futures and alternative ways of teaching. We will spend the afternoon inside the Prison engaging in creative rethinking of where the criminal justice system is heading and futures we would prefer to see. After the Workshop, the group will stop at a local diner for dinner to debrief and continue the discussion.
Space is limited and pre‐registration is required. Register here: ASC Graterford Registration
A non‐refundable registration fee of $33.00 for transportation on the bus, as well as the $17 buffet dinner (including tax and tip) outside of the prison, may be paid by credit card when registering. Those arranging their own transportation may register for a $5.00 administrative fee and pay the $17.00 dinner fee at the same site (dinner is optional for those providing their own transportation). Graterford Prison is in Montgomery County, PA, and is about 35 miles from the hotel. The bus will leave from the conference hotel and return participants directly to the hotel.
